Double success - two NAWA grants
A few days ago results of NAWA-Bekker call for research study visits prposal were announced. Two AST doctoral students became laureates (77 out of 255 applications). IV year doctoral candidate Oleksandra Pryshchepa, MSc (Dept. of Chemistry, supervisor dr hab. Pawel Pomastowski, prof/ UMK) will conduct 3 months research in Spain (Hospital Universitario A Coruña, CHUAC), her project is: "The study on the antibiotic resistance of selected pathogenic bacteria isolated from milk of cows with mastitis”.
M.Sc., Małgorzata Skorupska (AST, Faculty of Chemistry, supervisors: prof. dr hab. J. Lukaszewicz, dr hab. Anna Ilnicka), has also received funding for the project ' Synthesis and characterization of novel bi- and multi-metallic nanoparticles through galvanic restructuring for electro-catalytic energy conversion' under the Bekker NAWA program. Host center: the University of Oslo, Department of Chemistry, supervisor of research internship Ph.D. Athanasios Chatzitakis. Project duration: 01.08-2023 - 01.02.2024 (6 months). The main aim of the project is to combine expertise in advanced materials synthesis for electro-catalytic energy conversion between the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland and the University of Oslo, Norway. More specifically, porous substrate materials based on N-doped graphene will be combined with supported bi- and multi-metallic catalytic nanoparticles for improvement of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) during water electrolysis. The expected outcomes are: synthesis and characterization of advanced HER electro-catalysts, improvement of efficiency and stability of the novel catalysts, minimization of the amount of precious metals through galvanic restructuring.
